Avondale Primary School

11 Clarendon Street, Avondale Heights

Adams provided professional structural engineering services for the construction of three new modular school buildings at Avondale Heights Primary School, with a combined proposed building area of 2400m2.

Working in collaboration with Foreground Architects, our team designed architecturally pleasing buildings that adhered to Rendine Constructions’ modular construction requirements.

Our scope of work encompassed the structural design of the steel modular frame, footings, and linking decking and external canopy roofs. We also took charge of stormwater management, ensuring proper implementation from concept to construction.

Our design included a roof drainage system that utilizes an 80,000L above-ground water tank, in addition to a pavement and drainage system that provides adequate protection for the buildings and redirects overland flow paths through the site.

Challenges

Implementing a modular construction methodology, which required precise planning and execution to ensure seamless integration of the modular components.

Managing a large site with minimal falls, necessitating detailed attention to establish effective overland flow paths for major storm events and ensure proper drainage.

Dealing with tight timeframes to start fabrication, demanding efficient scheduling and coordination to meet project deadlines.

Addressing the installation of a large re-use tank that required the connection of all roof drainage, presenting technical complexities that needed to be carefully managed to ensure proper functionality.

Coordinating architectural features was critical to the overall design and required meticulous attention to detail and effective collaboration among the project team
