Adams has undertaken a number of projects for Deakin University ranging in size from advice regarding minor fitout works to existing teaching spaces to major projects such as the infill between buildings M & N on the Burwood Campus that involved conversion of the existing external space between the existing buildings into internal spaces to allow linking between the 2 buildings and the creation of informal spaces over 3 levels with a feature glazed roof. The project team reviewed the existing footings of the original buildings and were able to utilise these with no strengthening required. Adams also provided structural engineering services for the Central Precinct project which was a vital part of the overall campus master plan to link the Burwood frontage with the Elgar Rd Campus. This project involved the creation of a mezzanine floor and new feature roof over the existing bus University of Ballarat - SMB Campus interchange and between the campus’s gym, one of their main lecture theatres, and the campus restaurant. Careful planning was required during the staging of the project to minimise the disruption to staff and students and to maximise the use of the existing structure to minimise project costs.
