Adams was engaged by Jeckra to do the structural and civil stormwater design of a new childcare centre, along with a separate small retail tenancy in Gledswood Hills. This project encompassed a total floor area of 1,153 square meters, including 36 parking spaces, all situated on a 3,211 square meter site.
The project presented complexities such as an intricate roof profile, soaring vaulted ceilings, and sunken rooftop service zones. These factors demanded meticulous roof framing design to achieve the desired architectural aesthetic. After selecting the builder, a decision was made to transition from timber trusses to steel framing. This necessitated a prompt adjustment of the framing drawings to ensure the project’s construction schedule remained on course.
The project faced several challenges, including the presence of an adjacent Sydney Water pump station and assets running through an easement on the site. To ensure compliance with Sydney Water regulations and facilitate future pipe maintenance, a structural support system for the building had to be designed and submitted for approval to Sydney Water.
